Giving "The Wave" the "Finger"

Okay - The "Wave" Blah, blah, blah, blah...

Should I care if another rider acknowledges my presence on the road as a two-wheel rider?

Uh, no.

I get it... buy a motorcycle and you are now part of The Fraternity.. the Brotherhood....you belong to "The Club".

supposedly

This is just another way to be divisive and this whole "acceptance" chestnut gets you nowhere in life. If you needed everyone's acceptance/approval for everything you did, you wouldn't get very far.

Basically: I.... don't.....care...

I will tell you why very quickly.

When I was a young artist just starting out, a restaurant where I worked allowed me to hang some of my paintings in one corner.

The next day, group of people were sitting at the booth and staring at my work..obviously not in "appreciation".

So I strolled up to take their order and leaned over conspiratorially said:

"I know, they're awful aren't they!"

They responded in total relief:

"OMG, they are TERRIBLE! " They all spoke at once, so eager to communicate their disgust.

I continued..."I know! And you know what... the person who painted these actually works here!"

"OMG!" They responded and began craning their heads, looking at the rest of the wait staff. "Who is it?"

"Me!" I proclaimed. "Now what would you like from the bar?"

Yeah... they did not stay very long.

See, if I had let those nice opinions of my work affect me, I wouldn't have risen to the level of artistic mediocrity that I enjoy today.

So I will keep riding..with approval of others... or without. It's either that, or I start painting again...and I don't think any of you want that.

  1. The wave thing is weird, when I ride my scoot I sometimes get a wave. When I ride my motorcycle I get waved at regularly. Funny thing is some of the same motorcycle riders don't wave at me on my scoot. I wear the same distinctive pink gear when riding both. I'm like you though I don't need their acceptance to validate me on either of my 2 wheels, because I know the journey I have taken to get where I am now. Wave great, don't wave who cares. When I am riding my motorcycle I always wave a scooter peeps.

  2. Same thing Dar, I used to get lots of waves on the weekend riding with my BF on his motorcycle ahead of me. But when I rode on my scooter alone. Nothing. I realized that the other riders were waving at my BF and not me. I rarely get any waves from other riders. I used to wave all the time and get nothing back. Now I am like, "forget you" I didn't start riding to "Join a club" and I don't have to "earn your rider respect" I ride to ride and I just don't care what anyone thinks about it.
